How to find a UK visa sponsor job, step by step

Most people do this backwards. They apply to a hundred jobs, then find out the company cannot sponsor anyone. A month is gone and nothing came back.

The right order is the opposite: check the licence FIRST, apply second. This guide shows you how to do that yourself, for free, and where each step goes wrong.

Step 1: understand what a sponsor really is

A company can only give you a work visa if the Home Office has given that company a sponsor licence. This is a special permission. It has nothing to do with how big or famous the company is.

A care company can have 2,000 branches and no sponsor licence. A small office with ten people can have one. You cannot guess from the outside. You have to check the list.

Step 2: check the Home Office register

The government publishes the full list of licensed sponsors on gov.uk. It is free and updated every working day. Over 127,000 companies are on it.

Before you spend one minute on any job ad, search the company name on that list. If the company is not there, it cannot sponsor you today. Close the tab and move on.

• Check the licence covers the 'Worker' route (Skilled Worker), not only temporary routes.
• An A rating means the licence is in good standing. A B rating means the Home Office found problems.
• Names on the register can be the legal name, not the brand name. Search both.

Step 3: read the job ad like a lawyer

Many ads from licensed companies still say 'we cannot offer sponsorship for this role'. The licence is real, but this job will not use it. Those words are usually near the bottom of the ad.

Also check the pay. Every visa route has a minimum salary. If the ad's pay is below the minimum for that kind of job, the visa application fails even if the company wants you.

Step 4: apply properly, every day

Once a job passes those checks, apply directly to the company like any other candidate. A short CV that matches the job's words, a clear message, and speed. New jobs get hundreds of applications in the first days.

Applying to five checked jobs beats applying to fifty random ones. Every application to a real sponsor is a real chance. Every application to a non-sponsor is zero.
