Sponsor licence revoked? Free government help exists

In the year to June 2026 the Home Office revoked 4,403 skilled worker sponsor licences - the highest number since this visa system began, by the Home Office's own figures. Care companies were hit hardest. Behind every one of those licences are workers who did nothing wrong and still got the 60-day letter.

Most of them never hear the other half of the story: the government also funds free help for exactly this situation. This guide says what that help is and how to reach it, in plain English.

First, what the letter means

When your sponsor's licence is revoked, UKVI usually shortens your permission to 60 days, or to the time left on your visa if that is shorter. Losing the job does not mean you did something wrong, and the 60 days is time to act, not time to pack.

The help: regional support for displaced care workers

The Department of Health and Social Care and the Home Office fund regional support hubs across England for international care workers whose sponsor lost its licence. The word they use is 'displaced workers' - that is you.

What the hubs actually do, for free:

• A triage call about your situation: your visa status, your experience, where you can work.
• Introductions to licensed care employers who are actively looking to take on displaced workers.
• Advice on your employment rights, including unpaid wages your old employer still owes you.
• Signposting for money problems caused by the job loss, and wellbeing support.

How to reach it

• Search GOV.UK for 'support for care workers whose sponsor licence has been revoked' - the official page lists the support offer and how to register.
• Or ask your local council's adult social care team for the 'regional international recruitment hub'. Many councils have a page for this.
• About the curtailment letter itself, you can call the UKVI contact centre on 0300 790 6268 (option 2).
• Keep every document: your CoS, payslips, contract, the letter. The hubs and any new sponsor will ask for them.

It is free. Anyone charging you is a scam

This support costs nothing. If anyone asks for money to 'register' you, to 'arrange' a new sponsor, or to sell you a new Certificate of Sponsorship, walk away - selling a CoS is illegal and it is exactly how many of those 4,403 licences got revoked in the first place.

Not in England, or not in care?

The funded hub scheme covers adult social care in England. If you are in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, or in another industry, start with your local council and Citizens Advice, and use ACAS for unpaid wages. The 60-day plan works the same everywhere: check licences first, apply only to real sponsors.
