Sponsorship jobs in Edinburgh: 1,167 licensed employers, and how to check any of them

There are 1,167 companies in Edinburgh holding a Home Office sponsor licence right now. Almost nobody looking for work in Edinburgh could name three of them.

That is not laziness. The list exists, it is public, and it is free. It is also a spreadsheet with tens of thousands of rows, no jobs in it, and no way to tell which of those companies is hiring today. Most people open it once, scroll, and close it.

Why so few people do the one easy thing

Checking whether a company can sponsor takes about twenty seconds and costs nothing. Almost nobody does it. Not because they are careless, but because nobody told them it was possible, and because the people who did tell them usually wanted money for it.

An agent charging £15,000 for a certificate of sponsorship has no reason to mention that the register is public and free. Selling a certificate is a criminal offence in the UK, and the people selling them rely on you not knowing what you are allowed to check for yourself.

What we do, and why we do it this way

We download the Home Office register every morning and match every job advert against it. An advert from a company that is not on the register does not appear here. An advert that says it cannot sponsor is removed, and so is every other advert from an employer that has refused sponsorship somewhere else.

We also keep two things apart that everybody else merges. Some adverts say sponsorship is available in their own words. Most do not mention it either way, even when the employer is licensed. We show you which is which, because telling you a licensed employer will sponsor you is a promise we have no right to make.
