Most people applying for work in Newcastle Upon Tyne are guessing. They send applications to companies that legally cannot sponsor them, wait a fortnight, and hear nothing, and they never find out that the answer was decided before they pressed send.
The frustrating part is that it was knowable. 528 companies in Newcastle Upon Tyne hold a sponsor licence and the Home Office publishes all of them. The information was never hidden. It was just never usable.

These Newcastle Upon Tyne employers hold an A rated Skilled Worker licence and we have seen adverts from them pass our checks. A licence is permission to sponsor, not a promise to sponsor you, and none of these has promised anything to anybody reading this.
Checking whether a company can sponsor takes about twenty seconds and costs nothing. Almost nobody does it. Not because they are careless, but because nobody told them it was possible, and because the people who did tell them usually wanted money for it.
An agent charging £15,000 for a certificate of sponsorship has no reason to mention that the register is public and free. Selling a certificate is a criminal offence in the UK, and the people selling them rely on you not knowing what you are allowed to check for yourself.
We download the Home Office register every morning and match every job advert against it. An advert from a company that is not on the register does not appear here. An advert that says it cannot sponsor is removed, and so is every other advert from an employer that has refused sponsorship somewhere else.
We also keep two things apart that everybody else merges. Some adverts say sponsorship is available in their own words. Most do not mention it either way, even when the employer is licensed. We show you which is which, because telling you a licensed employer will sponsor you is a promise we have no right to make.
The licence check is free and always will be. Put any Newcastle Upon Tyne company into it and you will know in a few seconds whether the Home Office lists them today. That is more than most people applying there this week will know.
